It is half past three. The school day ended a while ago, and your child's bus has not pulled up yet. Nothing is necessarily wrong, but your mind starts running through the options anyway. Traffic? A breakdown? Just a slow afternoon? So you phone the school, and the school phones the driver, and everyone spends the next ten minutes finding out something that could have been clear from the start.
We think the school run deserves better than that. So we are adding School Bus to the schoolcare platform.
Why the journey matters as much as the lesson
For many families, the bus is the first and last part of the school day. It is the stretch of time when a child is out of sight of both parents and teachers, and that is exactly why it carries so much quiet worry. Parents want to know that their child got on, that the bus is moving, and that someone will say so if it is not.
For schools, transport is one of the busiest jobs in the building. A late bus means a flood of calls to the front desk, a driver who gets interrupted while trying to concentrate on the road, and staff who spend their afternoon passing messages along instead of looking after children. A little clear information fixes a surprising amount of this.
What parents will see
Open your parent dashboard and tap School Bus. You will see the bus's route laid out stop by stop, with the stops it has already reached ticked off, the next one marked, and the time it arrived at each. Your child's own stop is highlighted, so you can find it at a glance and see the moment the bus gets there.
If the bus is running behind, you will see a clear notice with a rough idea of how long the delay will be. If something goes wrong on the road, you will see that too, and the school will already be on it. You will not hear about it from another parent at the gate.
How it works, in plain terms
The idea is deliberately simple.
- The school sets things up once. Staff add their buses and configures the whole setup easily.
- Trips appear every morning. Once the setup is done, each day's trips are created automatically. Nobody has to start from scratch.
- The bus team checks in along the way. Drivers and bus assistants sign in and get started for the day with a simple tap, and the whole process flows seamlessly. They can add a quick note, report delays and emergencies if they need to.
- Parents see it as it happens. Every check-in shows up on the parent's screen with the time. Delays and emergencies are also passed on to parents and the school, so the right people hear quickly.
- If a bus is out of service, the school can handle a replacement right away, so children are not left waiting at the roadside.
- SMS and Email Alerts for everything notification.
What this means for schools
School staff get one simple home page showing what is happening today, with anything that needs attention flagged. There is also a step-by-step guide that takes you from the very first setup through to running daily trips, so you never have to work out the order yourself.
The goal is a quieter front office, a driver who can focus on driving, and parents who are informed instead of anxious.
Peace of mind is part of the school day
We built School Bus because we believe parents should not have to wonder, and schools should not have to be the ones answering the same worried question twenty times before four o'clock. Clear, timely information is a small thing, and it makes a very large difference to how a day feels.
Want to try it?
School Bus is rolling out to schools on schoolcare now. If your school runs buses and you would like to use it, talk to your school administrator or get in touch with us, and we will help you get started.
We wish every child a safe journey, there and back, every single day.
